Two types of seekers

In this dualistic work of happiness and sorrow, positive and negative, peace and restlessness, there is only way to transcend, there is only one way to achieve harmony and blissfulness- that is to seek; seek the higher goal, seek the Truth, seek the true Self, seek God.

There are only two kind of people in this world – those who are the seekers and those who are not.

Let’s talk first about those who are not. They are just contended in the worldly achievements and worldly pleasures. They believe this world to be true. They have no curiosity, no inquisitiveness to know the Truth. Even though they are always restless while running for outer pleasures- they don’t have any desire for peace or lost lasting happiness. While participating in the race of worldly achievements, they don’t have time to pause and think for a moment.  Either they are busy making money or thinking of ways to spend it- let’s plan an excursion trip, let’s go for a movie, let’s do a party, let’s go out to eat, let’s invite friends and what not? They don’t want to keep their mind unoccupied even for a moment because they don’t know how to deal with an unoccupied mind.

Then there are those who are not satisfied with superficial peace, momentary pleasures and shallow answers. They seek something higher- they seek long lasting eternal peace, deep divine blissfulness and true wisdom after attaining which no question remains unanswered. They are the seeker of higher goal, seekers of Truth, seekers of the true Self or the seekers of God.

The seekers are also of two types – those who are analytically inclined and those who are emotionally inclined. Analytically inclined seekers try to seek the deep truth of the religion, try to have the same experience as the prophet or the Saint. They try to explore the deep wisdom hidden in the holy scriptures and the words of Saints. They try to seek formless, omnipresent, all pervading God within.

Emotionally inclined seekers elevate the prophets and Saints to the level of God. They are the pure hearted beings who without giving much emphasis to their understanding, just surrender to the Supreme God. Their compassionate heart is always filled with the sweet remembrance and love of their favorite God- God with a form.

Importance is that of being a seeker – no matter how you seek the all pervading Sat-Chit-Anand Parmatma. He is ever present and omnipresent. No matter how you seek Him, He knows that you are a true seeker. He is always willing to help all kind of seekers who seek with pure heart and good intentions. Since He resides deep within all of us, just a sincere prayer to Him do wonders in the spiritual progress of a true seeker.

Shri Krishna also propound about the types of seekers in Shrimad Bhagwat Gita. While describing, he said all kinds of seekers gradually transcend over the world of duality, world of birth and death.

ध्यानेनात्मनि पश्यन्ति केचिदात्मानमात्मना |
अन्ये साङ् ख्येन योगेन कर्मयोगेन चापरे || 13-25||
Some try to perceive the Supreme Soul within their hearts through meditation, and others try to do so through the cultivation of knowledge, while still others strive to attain that realization by the path of action.

अन्ये त्वेवमजानन्त: श्रुत्वान्येभ्य उपासते |
तेऽपि चातितरन्त्येव मृत्युं श्रुतिपरायणा: || 13-26||

There are still others who are unaware of these spiritual paths, but they hear from others and begin worshiping the Supreme Lord. By such devotion to hearing from saints, they too can gradually cross over the ocean of birth and death.
