Poetry: I am conscious and blissful, the auspicious one.

The sublime message of inner world that cannot be communicated with the help of pros, can beautifully be presented in the form on poetry. In one of such a glorious verse in Sanskrit, the proponent of Advaita Philosophy, Adi Shankara recited about his authentic and blissful nature. In these wonderful verses, the 8th century Saint attempted to negate his false Self and point at his own eternal conscious blissful Self. The mystics tell us that whatever you can see or witness with the help of your senses, cannot be you or your authentic Self. For example, you see your ears, your nose, your body, so you are not this body. In this manner, the Saint depicted the glory of the eternal conscious blissful Self.

[Mano budhyahankara chithaa ninaham, Na cha vyoma bhoomir na thejo na vayu,
Chidananada Roopa Shivoham, Shivoham.]
Neither am I mind, nor intelligence ,
Nor ego, nor thought,
Nor am I ears or the tongue or the nose or the eyes,
Nor am I earth or sky or air or the light,
I am conscious and blissful, the auspicious one.

[Na cha praana sangno na vai pancha vaayuh,
Na vaa saptha dhathur na va pancha kosa,
Na vak pani padam na chopastha payu,
Chidananada Roopa Shivoham, Shivoham.]

I am not the life-force nor the vital airs;
Not the seven components not the five sheaths.
Nor am I the five internal organs,
Nor am I voice or hands or feet or other organs,
I am conscious and blissful, the auspicious one.

[Na me dwesha raghou na me lobha mohou,
Madho naiva me naiva matsarya bhava,
Na dharmo na cha artha na kamo na moksha,
Chidananada Roopa Shivoham, Shivoham.]

Neither attachment nor aversion can touch me;
Neither greed, delusion, pride, not jealosy are mine.
I am not duty, nor wealther, nor happiness-
I am conscious and blissful, the auspicious one.

[Na punyam na paapam na soukhyam na dukham,
Na manthro na theertham na veda na yagna,
Aham bhojanam naiva bhojyam na bhoktha,
Chidananada Roopa Shivoham, Shivoham.]

I am not virtue nor vice; not pain nor pleasure,
Neither do I have holy chants nor holy water;
nor holy books, nor fire sacrifice,
I am neither food, nor the consumer of food,
I am conscious and blissful, the auspicious one.

[Na mruthyur na sankha na me jathi bhedha,
Pitha naiva me naiva matha na janma,
Na bhandhur na mithram gurur naiva sishyah,
Chidananada Roopa Shivoham, Shivoham.]

I have neither death nor doubts, nor class distinction,
Neither father nor mother, nor even birth,
I do not have relations or friends or teacher or students,
I am conscious and blissful, the auspicious one.

[Aham nirvi kalpo nirakara roopo,

Vibhuthwascha sarvathra sarvendriyanaam,
Na chaa sangatham naiva mukthir na meyah
Chidananada Roopa Shivoham, Shivoham.]

I am not detachmentnor salvation,
nor anything reached by the senses;
I am beyond all thoughts and form,
I am everywhere, and nowhere at all,
I am conscious and blissful, the auspicious one.
