Japan, one of the inspirations to the world

A massive earthquake, followed by T-sunami hit Japan on March 11th- a natural calamity, which is beyond human control. But, what is in human control is -how to react to such a difficult time. The Japanese society, as a whole, has set an inspirational example for whole of the world. Otherwise also, Japanese are well prepared to deal with natural disaster mostly as a result of frequently experiencing them. One of my friends noted a few points that can be inspirational for the rest of the world.

The left picture below shows the shattered section of Great Kanto Highway in Naka, demonstrating the power of the March 11th earthquake. However, the astonishing speed of reconstruction highlights Japan’s ability to get back on its feet. Work began on this road on March 17 and six days later, the cratered section of the Great Kanto Highway in Naka was as good as new ( picture on right) and ready to re- open to traffic.

Ten things to learn from Japan

1. THE CALM : Not a single visual of chest-beating or wild grief. It was only show of controlled emotions. Sorrow itself has been elevated.

2. THE DIGNITY : Disciplined queues for water and groceries. Not a rough word or a crude gesture.

3. THE ABILITY : The incredible architects, for instance. Buildings swayed but didn’t fall.

4. THE GRACE : People bought only what they needed for the present, so everybody could get something.

5. THE ORDER : No looting in shops. No honking and no overtaking on the roads. Just understanding.

6. THE SACRIFICE : More than eighty workers stayed back to pump sea water in the Nuclear-reactors and risked their own lives to save the nuclear disaster. What an exemplary show of duty?

7. THE TENDERNESS : Restaurants cut prices. An unguarded ATM is left alone. The strong cared for the weak .

8. THE TRAINING : The old and the children, everyone knew exactly what to do. And they did just that.

9. THE MEDIA : They showed magnificent restraint in the bulletins. No silly reporters. Only calm reportage.

10. THE CONSCIENCE : When the power went off in a store, people put things back on the shelves and left quietly.

May God bless Japan and the Japanese people.
